Midwestern
Corvette Society, Inc. Founded in late 1986, the Midwestern Corvette Society, effectively combines the interests of those Corvette owners who enjoy a wide variety of activities ranging from regularly scheduled local and regional road trips, casual meals, evenings out on the town, poker runs, cruises, picnics, autocrosses, drag racing, people’s choice and concours shows plus participation in the annual Rivercade celebration in Sioux City, Iowa where the club transports the queen candidates during the opening parade festivities. Club participation embraces a wide range of events, including NCCC (National Council of Corvette Clubs) West Region point events throughout the divisional area. Our diverse cross-section of members did well in concours, autocross and drag-race competition during the 2002 season. The club typically attends at least four major NCCC programs during the year, and numerous regional and local shows or events. MWCS strives to promote inter-club activities by welcoming and issuing invitations to a host of other Corvette Clubs within a 350 mile radius of the Sioux City area.
Club meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month, with the exception of December, which is the month when the Christmas party takes place. During the winter months of October through March the club meetings are held indoors at one of the local restaurants or occasionally at club members homes. From April through September the meeting locations are scheduled one month in advance, and usually at one of many local parks in the area as decided by the membership. In keeping with the Club’s spirit of community participation and enhancement, the membership selects a number of charitable organization for annual financial support. One such cause is: S.T.A.R.S. Special Troopers Adaptive Riding School, located at 33148 Country Road K-22, just north of Sioux City, Iowa. This organization provides horseback riding for persons with disabilities and is an exceptional form of recreation and physical therapy, while also providing certain psychological benefits for the students. The program serves riders from 18 months to seventy years of age, with such disabilities as spinal cord injuries, cerebral palsy, mental retardation, autism, learning disabilities, visual & hearing impairment and various genetic syndromes. The club wishes to express its sincere appreciation for all those local sponsors who so graciously provide financial support and donations during the various funding-raising functions held during the year, without which these community contributions as noted above, would not be possible. The Club authors a monthly newsletter entitled the “VETTE GAZETTE” which contains the minutes from each monthly meeting, an advance monthly calendar of events and special editorial commentary from various members of the organization, plus information about sponsors in the area. Sponsors desiring to advertise in the club newsletter, are encouraged to contact the Club Secretary for more information. The Club’s national affiliation is the National Council of Corvette Clubs (NCCC).
