HAWKEYE AREA CHAPTER CLASSIC CHEVY CLUB INTERNATIONAL ANNOUNCES RESTORATION AND DONATION OF A 1955 CHEVROLET
FIRE CHIEF'S CAR TO THE CEDAR RAPIDS FIRE DEPARTMENT.

Don Janda, President of the Classic Chevy Club, says this project is a service project that
numerous businesses are becoming involved with. "When we presented this idea to the club,
all of our members were excited. When we started soliciting area businesses for support, we
couldn't believe the response". What a response they received, local businesses responded
with body and paint work, transmission rebuild, motor tune-up, new brakes and suspension,
new tires and dozens of other items required in a full restoration. The Hawkeye Area Chapter
of Classic Chevy International is dedicated to the preservation and restoration of 1955, 1956
and 1957 Chevrolets; including Corvettes and pick-ups. The local chapter was founded in
1977. Classic Chevy Club is also involved in the community in other ways, with annual donations
to Tanager Place (an agency helping children and families in need), both monetarily and with
volunteer time. The Classic Chevy Club members are also very much involved in the "hands
on" work of the car, their personal time and money they donate will help fulfill the club's vision
of completing this car by the spring of 1999.

Acting Fire Chief Bruce Reynolds says that a restored Fire Chief's Car will help draw attention to our fire safety message. "We plan to use this donated Fire Chief's Car in parades and special events, drawing in people for which we can deliver a message of Fire Safety".

Don Janda also notes that next summer, Classic Chevy Club International with headquarters in
Orlando, Florida, will be in Cedar Rapids during their 25th Anniversary National Tour to witness
and help celebrate the dedication and donation of the Fire Chief's Car to the Cedar Rapids
Fire Department.

The Public is invited to become involved with the project and donations may be sent to
First Federal Community Credit Union c/o "Hawkeye Area Chapter Classic Chevy Club
International, Fire Chief's Car".
